Sometimes the best cooking inspiration starts at the grocery store. Here are five dishes you can make this weekend using ingredients available at Shuang Hur — each one designed to take advantage of what the store does best.
1. Cantonese Steamed Whole Fish
Pick a live fish from the tank (sea bass or tilapia work well), have the counter staff prepare it, and steam it at home over high heat for 8–10 minutes. Finish with a pour of hot oil, soy sauce, ginger, and green onion. One of the fastest and most impressive dishes you can make.
2. Larb Gai (Lao Chicken Salad)
Ground chicken (or pork) cooked and tossed with toasted rice powder, fish sauce, lime juice, fresh mint, cilantro, and shallots. Served at room temperature with sticky rice. All herbs and proteins available at Shuang Hur.
3. Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Lemongrass Beef Noodle Soup)
The spicier, more intense cousin of pho. Requires lemongrass, shrimp paste, dried chilies, and pork hock — all available at Shuang Hur. The broth is built on pork and beef bones simmered with lemongrass and fermented shrimp paste for a deeply savory, fragrant base.
4. Filipino Sinigang
A tamarind-soured soup with pork ribs, water spinach (kangkong), eggplant, radish, and green beans. The sour broth is built from fresh or powdered tamarind — Shuang Hur carries both. A warming, deeply satisfying soup that’s quicker than pho.
5. Sticky Rice with Mango
Thailand’s most famous dessert. Glutinous rice cooked in sweetened coconut milk, served with fresh ripe mango. Shuang Hur carries glutinous rice, coconut milk, and often ripe Thai mangoes. It takes about 45 minutes start to finish and is reliably impressive.
